These are very difficult times for all of us who care every day for those who are deployed with Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We must keep a strong faith in our Military's mission, no matter how terrible events are to those most effected. The statement "Freedom is not Free" is more true today than it ever was. We must welcome the troops back with a stiff upper lip, a firm handshake and than look at them eye to eye and say authentically: "Thank you for your honorable service". The history of Freedom is built one layer at a time. The freshest layer is the strongest of them all. I, and others in your community, across America, and around the world, are in constant prayer right now for you, and in constant prayer right now with you for Matt. And, more than this, God Himself is present with you. He has promised us: "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).

So, therefore, we can say: "Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will receive mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it" (Hebrews 4:16). And, we can pray: "Lord, have mercy on us. We have put our hope in You. Protect us day by day, and save us in times of trouble" (Isaiah 33:2).

God knows where Matt is right now, because He is holding his hand. So, therefore, we know that Matt is surrounded with God's perfect love. And, so, we can know that Matt is not fearing his present situation right now. Because we know that "There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear" (1 John 4:18a).

We must all hold on to this and believe this. We must keep trusting God, and keep our hope in Him: "...hope returns when I remember this one thing: The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue. Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The Lord is all I have, and so in Him I put my hope" (Lamentations 3:21-24).
