Message: To Carolyn Maupin: In your role at work, you make sure my son gets home safe from school every day. For you, I will pray the same, safe return home for Matt. Our ribbons are flying, the candles are lit and our prayers are said as the moments of each day pass. May God comfort your family and protect Matt in the cloak of peace and love that only Jesus can provide in desperate times. HE IS NOT ALONE. From all of us whose children you return safely home every day, Thank You. May God allow our prayers to safely deliver Matt to your door.

Message: Honestly I never knew him but I knew his brother from my graduating class. I have meant to pray for him every night but after two days I started to forget to do it and for that I am eternally sorry, I would like to pray for him until he returs everyday if I can but I may forget.

I hope he comes home to see the yellow ribbons all over the city including my house and as well as the badge I will start wearing to work tomorrow with is picture and a yellow ribbon.

Message: When I first heard that Matt was missing, it hit me especially hard because I heard he was 20 and from Batavia. You see my nephews are 20 also and they went to school in Batavia in kindergarten and the first grade. Who knows maybe my boys and yours played together at recess. Well anyway it just made me pray all that much harder for him. When I heard he was captured I was just so upset. You see both of my nephews are also in the military and one of them is in Iraq. So you see we might just as easily be on the other side of this conversation. I want you to know that i will continue to pray for Matt until the Lord frees him. Thank you and your church for letting us come to your church on Wednesday April 21st to pray with you for Matt and all the soldiers currently serving our great country. I admire the graceful way your family has dealt with this situation. I can see the Lord is already using this to reach more people with His love. I trust the Lord will bring Matt through this terrible time. God bless your family. Thank you.

Message: Dear Carolyn: I am continuing to pray for you, your son, and your whole family. Sometimes God uses songs to help express to Him what is in our hearts. Several songs by Mark Schultz have really touched my heart. "Letters From War" expresses the love of a mother to her son gone away to war: "You're good, and you're brave. What a father that you'll be someday. Make it home. Make it safe. She wrote every night, and she prayed." Another song, "He's My Son," expresses the anguish of knowing a child is in trouble: " 'I'm down on my knees again tonight. I'm hoping this prayer will turn out right. See, there is a boy that needs your help. I've done all that I can do myself'. His mother is tired. I'm sure you can understand. Each night as he sleeps, she goes in to hold his hand. And she tries not to cry, as the tears fill her eyes. 'Can you hear me? Am I getting through tonight? Can you see him? Can you make him feel all right? If you can hear me, let me take his place somehow. See he's not just anyone, he's my son. Sometimes late at night, I watch him sleep. I dream of the boy he'd like to be. I try to be strong and see him through. But God who he needs right now is you. Let him grow old, live life without this fear. What would I be, living without him here. He's so tired, and he's scared. Let him know that You're there. Can you hear me? Can you see him? Please don't leave him. He's my son.'" And the last song, "You are a Child Of Mine," is a promise we can hold on to: "You are a child of mine, born of my own design. And you bear the heart of life. No matter where you go, oh you will always know - You've been there free in Christ. You are a child of Mine." When I hear these songs played on the radio, I think of your son. And you. And I pause to pray. They are my "audible" yellow ribbons. Remember - God will make a way, when there seems to be no way. From one mother to another.

Message: Loving a soldier is a high price to pay;

Loving him truly is hard when he's away.

It's being alone with nothing to hold;

It's being young, but feeling old.

It's having him whisper his love for you;

It's whispering back that you love him to.

There comes a kiss and a promise for more;

As his plane slowly rises and begins to soar.

Reluctantly, painfully, letting him go;

While your insides are dying from wanting him so.

Watching him leave with eyes full of tears;

Standing alone with your hopes, dreams, and fears.

It's sending a letter with the stamp upside down;

To a far away love in a faraway town.

It's going to church to kneel and to pray;

And really meaning the things that you say.

Being in love will foster your dreams;

Of that far away soldier your mind fairly beams.

Days go by, no mail for a spell;

You wait for some word to hear that he's well.

Then a letter arrives, and you've given in,

To open his letter and read it with a grin.

Yes, he is well and misses you so;

It's filled with the love you wanted to know.

Weeks are like months, and months are like years,

You wait for the day when you'll have no more fears.

Days go by slowly, how many have passed?

But then comes the day when you're together at last!

Loving a soldier isn't much fun,

But it's well worth the price when the battle is won.

Remember he's thinking of you everyday,

He is sad too and lonely while so far away.

So love him and miss him but hold your head high;

Be strong and have faith, wipe that tear from your eye.

It's the high price we pay for loving a soldier.

It's well worth it to love and support a man who will stand up and defend until the bitter end.
